Läänemaa
is the most western county on mainland Estonia. The word Läänemaa was first used in writing for the region in the 16th century.
 
Läänemaa stays aside from main magistrals which goes through Estonia. East side of the county is tightly roaded area, it has main connections with Tallinn, Pärnu and Middle-Estonia.

Tallinn – 101 km
Pärnu – 111 km
Tartu – 258 km
Narva – 314 km
Kuressaare – 155 km
 
Haapsalu is extremely easy to reach. More than 20 buses depart Tallinn for Haapsalu each day, making the southwest trip in 1.5 - 2 hours, depending on the exact route. There are also bus connections with other towns, inside the county and citylines.
 
Ferry connection between mainland and isalnds Saaremaa, Hiiumaa and Vormsi is through harbours Rohuküla and Virtsu.
 
Other ports are suitable to visit with yachts also. Differents aervices are offered to them.
 
For bicycle trips, we recommend to use smaller roads which are more safer and there are more options to see sights and have a contact with nature or locals. Routes in Läänemaa are available to see HERE.
